As part of the expansion and strengthening of friendly ties between Rostov-on-Don and Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, which have been designated as sister cities, Rostov boxers were sent to an international boxing tournament. This significant event embodied the overall policy aimed at developing sports cooperation, cultural exchange, and enhancing mutual understanding between our peoples.
Participants in the tournament included athletes from India, Russia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Réunion Island (France), and the Republic of South Africa. The implementation of this project was made possible through comprehensive support and active assistance from the Rostov-on-Don city administration and the Honorary Consul. Their contributions ensured a high level of organization for the competition, creating favorable conditions for the participants.
On the Seychelles, Rostov athletes demonstrated a high level of skill, showing excellent preparation and fighting spirit. The following results were achieved after intense bouts:
Rostov resident Artyom Smygarev (Sports School “Fighting Gloves,” coach Grigory Kobzar) in the 75 kg weight category won a bronze medal.
Igor Attarov (Sports School “Fighting Gloves,” coach Dmitry Palyuchenkov), after reaching the semifinals by defeating a South African boxer, advanced to the final in the 80 kg weight category, where he faced compatriot Haji Hassen (Olympic Training Center No. 1, coach Kazim Khalilov).
The successful performance of the Rostov team in Seychelles is a vivid example of fruitful international cooperation and confirms the high potential for the development of boxing in Rostov-on-Don. Such events serve as an important tool for strengthening friendship and partnership relations between our sister cities.
We are proud of the achievements of our athletes and congratulate them on their well-deserved victories!
