Russian Servicemen Take Part in Seychelles’ 50th Independence Anniversary Military Parade!

Russian servicemen participated in the military parade marking the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Seychelles. The 154th Separate Preobrazhensky Commandant Regiment marched in the parade held in the capital, Victoria, an African Initiative correspondent reported.

The military parade, the centerpiece of the Republic of Seychelles’ Independence Day celebrations, took place on the night of June 28–29 at Unity Stadium and attracted around 10,000 spectators.

Among the distinguished guests were Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation; Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India; Navin Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius; and Liu Wei, China’s Minister of Transport.

Around 20 parade contingents took part in the event, including units from the Seychelles Defence Forces, the Police Force, the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency, and youth organizations. In addition to Russia, representatives from India, China, and Mauritius also participated in the parade.

The ceremony was accompanied by military bands from Seychelles, India, and the United Arab Emirates. “Your presence on this historic day is a great honor for our nation and a testament to the strong friendship and partnerships that Seychelles has built with countries around the world over the past five decades. We sincerely appreciate your joining us to celebrate this important milestone in our nation’s history,” Seychelles President Patrick Herminie said in his address to the guests.

The celebrations also featured musical performances, traditional dances, and cultural displays by local groups.
