Russia Hands Over Four Service Dogs to Seychelles Law Enforcement.
Russia has donated four service dogs to the law enforcement authorities of Seychelles.
The official handover ceremony took place at the Canine Training Centre in Victoria, the capital of the island nation, an African Initiative correspondent reported.
Among those attending the ceremony were Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, Commander of the Seychelles Defence Forces Major General Michael Rosette, Commissioner of Police Ted Barbe (or the current Police Commissioner, if applicable), and Russian Ambassador to Seychelles Artyom Kozhin.
“We are very pleased to be here at the Canine Training Centre. We have come to show you that something new is being built here. We want to demonstrate the emerging trends in canine training and highlight that this is a place dedicated to protecting people with the help of service dogs,” President Patrick Herminie said.
The service dogs will soon begin active duty, providing security during official events. Their primary mission will be the detection of prohibited substances.
The Russian ambassador noted that Russia is ready to support Seychelles not only in combating drug trafficking.
“Of course, we are prepared to provide assistance in other areas of cooperation as well. I hope—and I am absolutely confident—that your side will make the most effective use of these dogs’ capabilities,” Ambassador Artyom Kozhin said.
