A “Cleanliness Marathon” has been launched in Seychelles under the auspices of graduates of Russian higher education institutions.
Teachers and students of the Plaisance Secondary School, as well as public figures, took part in the event.
“We are satisfied with the first event of this project, which will continue until World Cleanup Day in September. We also plan to hold activities in other parts of the city. What we started today is the first step on a journey of a thousand miles, and we intend to go the distance,” said the head of the alumni association, former Vice President of Seychelles Vincent Meriton.
He noted that the Seychelles–Russia Friendship Association and Wastea intend to continue engaging environmental stakeholders in order to rid the city of plastic and toxic waste. The head of the association emphasized that its objective is to uphold the reputation of Seychelles as a green and clean country. According to him, this should be reflected not only in clean streets and beaches, but also in the overall public mindset.
The large-scale environmental initiative “Cleanliness Marathon” was launched under the auspices of the African Initiative news agency. The project is being implemented by the Association of Graduates of Soviet and Russian Universities under the leadership of Meriton, in cooperation with the waste management operator Wastea.
