In 2026, Russia and the Republic of Seychelles mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Over this period, bilateral dialogue has passed through different eras, yet it has consistently maintained a friendly character.
Today, cooperation is entering a new stage — from education and tourism to trade and humanitarian exchanges.
In an interview with African Initiative, Ambassador of Russia to Seychelles Artem Kozhin spoke about the “positive genetics” of bilateral relations, the growing interest in Russia, and the prospects for the anniversary year.
Interest among Seychellois business circles in Russia remains fairly high. This primarily concerns the tourism sector and services, as tourism forms the backbone of the local economy.
The Seychellois side advocates for an increase in the number of flights and demonstrates a most-favored-nation approach toward the Russian national carrier.
As for trade and economic relations, an important area for Seychelles is the import of Russian food products. A notable example is the company Miratorg, which has been present in the archipelago since 2023.
The Seychellois side is also interested in exporting its products to Russia, primarily tuna, which is considered among the highest quality in the world. Interest in the Russian language has always been high here. This is largely due to the fact that a significant number of Seychellois have received education in Russia over the years.
Seychelles is also a major transport and logistics hub, located at the intersection of numerous maritime and air trade routes.
