Seychelles Tourism Academy Celebrates the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture!
The Seychelles Tourism Academy hosted a celebration of the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. The event was organized by the academy, the Russian Embassy in Seychelles, and the African Initiative news agency.
As part of the program, Seychellois students studying Russian presented musical and theatrical performances. They performed the songs Matushka Zemlya and Kalinka, and also staged a short play in Russian.
The event brought together around 100 participants, including students, members of the academy’s management, and staff of the Russian diplomatic mission.
Deputy Director of the academy, Daniella Rose, noted that the students who performed had been studying Russian for the past three months.
“Russian language studies are part of the curriculum from the first year of education, with classes held for two hours per week. Today’s event provided an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge they have acquired. I must admit that I was very impressed. It is clear that the students have already mastered the basic skills. I do not speak Russian myself; however, judging by the reactions of the Russian-speaking guests, it was obvious that they understood the students’ speech,” Rose said.
Dmitry Iordanidi, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Victoria, emphasized that the Russian diplomatic mission supports such events as they reflect the interest of the Seychellois people in Russian culture.
“This confirms the strong interest that exists in this beautiful country in Russia, Russian culture, and Slavic heritage as a whole. We highly appreciate the younger generation’s commitment to learning the Russian language and culture. I am confident that knowledge of Russian will help students broaden their professional opportunities and enhance their competitiveness in the job market,” the diplomat stated.
