Russian language classes have resumed in the Seychelles, reports a correspondent of the “African Initiative.”
The courses are held at the Tourism Academy, the country’s main educational center, where specialists for the tourism industry are trained.
According to Russian language teacher Sofia Grigoryeva from Russia, interest in the classes is steadily growing.
“I have been teaching here for several months, and I was surprised by how warmly the local residents embrace Russian culture. <…> They show genuine interest in everything Russian: folk songs, dances, and cuisine. Many dream of visiting Russia — a cold country about which they have heard so much,” she said.
According to her, the people of the Seychelles are friendly toward Russians and show great interest in learning the language.
The students themselves admit that Russian is not easy, but their desire to speak it outweighs the difficulties.
“Russian is great! We love Russia! We really like Russian culture, especially the food — blini, pelmeni, and sausage,” they shared.
Many students dream of visiting Russia one day, seeing Moscow and Red Square, while some hope to continue their education at Russian universities.
“Yes, the Russian language is difficult. But our teacher helps us, and we are trying. We dream of going to Russia — to see the Kremlin and your vast country. For now, we are simply happy that the classes have resumed,” the students say.
