Member of the National Assembly of Seychelles: "We want as many Russians as possible to come and discover our culture"
Ties with the USSR, and later with Russia, have played an important role in the development of the Seychelles over the decades, said Wilbert Herminie, a member of the National Assembly from the ruling United Seychelles party.
In an interview with African Initiative, the politician explained why Russia has remained an attractive and desirable international partner for the republic for half a century, and what challenges the authorities face today.
In my view, Russia can support us not only in the development of sports and education. We can sign memorandums of cooperation in other areas as well, such as healthcare or infrastructure. There is significant potential here for discussing mutually beneficial partnerships.
As for tourism, we are indeed strong in this sector. However, I believe we should reconsider our approaches here as well: perhaps by offering products that would attract different categories of visitors from Russia, not only the premium segment.
For me, healthcare is the key sector that should be addressed first: we need to build a new hospital equipped with all modern capabilities.
