An international chess tournament marking the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Seychelles’ independence was held in Victoria, the country’s capital. Young Russian chess player Alexander Sitkin won the silver medal in the Under-14 category, an African Initiative correspondent reported.
“The tournament consisted of six rounds, giving participants not only the opportunity to compete and improve their skills but also to practice recording games using standard chess notation. <…> Every opening and every game played provided valuable learning opportunities and helped participants gain new knowledge and experience. Both young and more experienced players took part, making the competition even more exciting and competitive,” said Benjamin Hoareau, President of the Seychelles Chess Federation, during the award ceremony.
Benjamin Hoareau also highlighted the strong potential of the young Seychellois players who competed in the Under-14 category.
The winners were congratulated by Dericka Arrisol, Secretary of the Seychelles Chess Federation
