Joshua Aaron Cousin and Dasheil Fabrice Fanchette signed an agreement witnessed by Mr. Mark Arrisol, CEO of the National Sports Council (NSC), Ms. Lydia Charlie, Acting Mayor of Victoria, and Mr. Alexander Odoevsky, Counsellor at the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Seychelles.
“Sports relations between Russia and the Seychelles have improved rapidly in recent years, especially in boxing,” said Mr. Odoevsky, referring to the past two years when Seychellois boxers came to compete in Rostov-on-Don. In addition, boxers from Rostov traveled to the Seychelles to take part in the recent Gran Kaz tournament.
Dashel Fanchette started boxing in 2020, he is now 21 years old and he has achieved great results. This exchange will give him a chance to improve his skills.
“This is 100% what I wanted,” said Fanchette, adding, “Since last year, I quit my job to fully dedicate myself to boxing and now that I have this opportunity, I will make the most of it.”
“For me, the Olympic medal is definitely more important than anything, but I want to go even further and become a professional boxer, which has always been my dream,” said Joshua Cousin. The Indian Ocean champion also mentioned that he intended to keep improving himself and would strive to win at the highest level of the sport.
“Thanks to this agreement, both boxers will go to the Rostov State University of Economics in Rostov-on-Don where, in addition to training, they will also be able to continue their studies,” said Mr. Ralph Jean-Louis, Principal Secretary for Sports.
He added that this was one of the development steps as part of the twinning agreement signed between Rostov-on-Don and Victoria in 2021.
